Drain Fire (xie huo)

Cold herbs that strongly purge ‘fire’ – a more severe heat, typically affecting the upper body, from febrile disease and other origins, resulting in symptoms such as high fever, red face and eyes, thirst, extreme headaches and pronounced irritability or possible delirium. E.g. zhi mu (Anemarrhena asphodeloides)
